The External Chamber from IPS Automation is a level measurement accessory designed to
provide a stable external measuring column for tanks, vessels, boilers, separators, and process
equipment. It is mounted outside the main vessel using process connections, allowing the liquid
level inside the chamber to correspond with the level inside the vessel. This arrangement helps
level instruments operate in a calmer and more controlled environment, improving
measurement stability in applications affected by turbulence, foam, vapor, high temperature,
pressure fluctuations, or aggressive process media.
External chambers are commonly used with magnetic level indicators, guided wave radar
transmitters, displacer transmitters, float switches, reed chain transmitters, and point level
switches. By installing the level instrument externally, operators can perform inspection,
isolation, calibration, and maintenance more safely and conveniently without directly entering or
disturbing the main process vessel. External chambers are suitable for demanding industries
such as oil & gas, chemical processing, petrochemical, power generation, water treatment, food
processing, and industrial manufacturing.

Compatible with Multiple Level Instruments

External chambers can be configured for magnetic level indicators, guided wave radar, displacer transmitters, float switches, reed chain transmitters, and point level switches, offering flexible level measurement and alarm options.

Custom Engineered Design

Each unit can be manufactured according to process conditions, line size, pressure class, material grade, number of stages, bore configuration, and project-specific requirements. Improved Equipment Protection By controlling flow velocity and pressure drop, the assembly helps protect downstream piping, valves, instruments, and process equipment from erosion, vibration, and pressure shock.

Easy Maintenance and Calibration

With suitable isolation valves, the chamber and mounted instruments can be isolated for cleaning, inspection, calibration, or replacement without interrupting the main process operation.

Improved Operator Safety

Vent, drain, isolation, and external mounting arrangements help operators handle maintenance and troubleshooting with better process isolation and reduced exposure to hazardous media.

Reduced Vessel Modification

External chamber installation can reduce the need for multiple vessel penetrations, allowing several level instruments or switches to be mounted on one external assembly.

Safer Instrument Installation

Level instruments can be mounted externally on the chamber, reducing direct exposure to the main vessel and supporting safer inspection, calibration, and maintenance activities.

Stable and Accurate Level Measurement

External chambers create a calmer measurement zone outside the main vessel, helping reduce the effect of turbulence, foam, vapor movement, and process disturbances on level readings.

Suitable for Harsh Process Conditions

Available in stainless steel, carbon steel, duplex, Monel, Hastelloy, Inconel, and other materials, external chambers can be designed for corrosive, high-pressure, high-temperature, and hazardous process environments.
