The Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) from IPS Automation is an industrial
temperature sensor designed for accurate and stable temperature measurement in process
applications. An RTD measures temperature by detecting the change in electrical resistance of
a metal element, commonly platinum, as temperature changes. As the temperature increases,
the resistance of the RTD element also increases, allowing the connected indicator, transmitter,
PLC, or DCS system to convert resistance into a precise temperature reading.
RTDs are widely preferred in industrial temperature measurement where accuracy,
repeatability, and long-term stability are important. Common RTD types include Pt100 and
Pt1000, with Pt100 being one of the most widely used resistance sensors in process industries.
RTD assemblies can be supplied in simplex or duplex construction, with different sheath
materials, terminal heads, cable options, and process connections to suit pipelines, tanks,
vessels, reactors, boilers, heat exchangers, and process equipment.
