The Multistage Restriction Orifice from IPS Automation is a custom-engineered pressure
reduction and flow control device used in industrial piping systems where a required pressure
drop cannot be safely achieved with a single restriction orifice plate. It consists of multiple
restriction stages arranged in series, allowing the total pressure drop to be divided into smaller,
controlled steps. This staged pressure reduction helps reduce the risk of cavitation, flashing,
choked flow, excessive noise, vibration, and downstream equipment damage.
Unlike a single-stage restriction orifice, a multistage design is selected for severe service
applications involving high pressure drop, high flow velocity, or high noise conditions. Each
stage is calculated based on process parameters such as fluid type, flow rate, pressure,
temperature, density, viscosity, compressibility, required pressure drop, and allowable noise
level. The assembly can be designed with single-hole, multi-hole, flanged, or butt-weld
construction depending on the application and piping requirement.
